Default radiator cooked

I have been driving the camaro around a little the past few days taking my son to and from school. He has been asking me to to show off to his friends. I just love it that he is getting interested in cars.

Anyways, I cant go far as the darn thing get hot pretty fast. The day I bought it home it got up to 225 230 before I could get out of traffic over to the side of the road. One time I turned it off at a light that I was trapped at for a while and barely got it started again because of the heat. The battery just had enough to get it going. I had to stop four times and let it cool down to 160 180 and make another run for it before it got hot again.

So today I took it out and had it roded out for $85. Not sure if that's a good deal or not but I check a few places and that's what they all said or more.

Took them about 45 min to an hour to get it done.

Here is the bummer part... I was unbolting the trans lines that go to the tank on the radiator and the fluid was grey and metallic looking. Lots of metal in the fluid. It has a 3000 stall that I'm sure is cooked. Sure would be nice if that's all I had to do is change the converter and flush it out but I know that the bands and clutches are probably toast also.

Now I got to thinking, Maybe I should do a 4 spd conversion. The pedals are pretty cheap at about $130.00 new or I could go to the junk yard and hunt for weeks. That kind of stuff doesn't make it to the junk yard here. Someone buys it before it make it there.

Don't know what I can find a 4 spd trans for now days but maybe some where around $650 and up I would think??

Have an extra one for sale Nick?

I was really hoping that the engine, trans, rear would be okay for this build.

Losts of stuff you will need. Pedals, 4 speed, drive shaft, cross member, clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing, 4 speed shifter linkage, bell housing, fork, bell crank ball or pivot arm, if I recall there is a braket on the subframe that you will need that is part of the pedal and linkage, bolts, clutch return spring, u joints, transmission mounts as well. Be prepaired to spend $$$. Ebay and craigslist are your friend on most of these items.

It is no big deal to convert from an automatic, I have done it on several cars over the years. The pedal kit will have everything you need minus the pedal pads as far as the linkage goes.

Since you are just basically going with a stock set up, there is nothing wrong with going to Auto zone and spending 120 bucks for a new 11" clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing kit, it will work great in a stock car.

On the trans I would look for a wide ratio M=20 over anything else because of the 252 first gear. it will make even a stock motor fell strong over the 220 first gear in a m-21 or M-22 and you can pick them up for less. here you go, how about this..

I have dealt with kajon John in the past & he has always treated me right.

As for flywheels & bell-housings with clutch forks, they are a dime a dozen, I have picked them up for 20 bucks in the past. Same with shifters for a couple hundred bucks you can buy a new shifter through Summit of watch ebay for some deals on used one.

The drive shaft and cross member are the same if swapping from a glide or a T350 so nothing needed there.

IMHO stick shift cars are more desirable, easier to sell and generally bring more money.

Good luck.

That trans looks nice. Is that a good deal for $600?

The guy that I bought the car from told me that it's a 400. I haven't got under the car to verify that yet?

its been awhile maybe nick can vouch but the turbo 400 has a different cross member. If I recall correctly, I had to shorten the shaft to go from 4 speed to the 400 so just the opposite should be true.

You are correct sir The T400 takes a different cross-member, a different length drive shaft and has a bigger yoke.

Today I put the radiator back in the 67 and ran it for 20 mins and it never got above 180*. The heating issues are over. Here's what it sounds like.
